Siemens, with its resources, evaluated all of the available products and chose LPATS. The system is critical to Siemens worldwide operations. The software and peripherals are constantly being improved though experience and innovation.

GPATS uses state-of-the-art technology and is a product that has now been acknowledged by academic and engineering authorities. GPATS and its data services in Australia, Germany and the USA have a proven track record in supplying customers a very reliable and accurate product. At present GPATS is expanding its network throughout Australia.

There are at least three reasons outside severe weather forecasting that an organisation would need to monitor lightning data. The first is productivity, using the lightning data to improve operational performance and better utilise existing resources. The second is in the area of research, applied knowledge of lightning phenomena to problems that are being encountered by industry, commerce and institutions. The third and last consideration of lightning is safety. This is very closely aligned with productivity.
