Map Information Display System (MIDS)

MIDS is the program used by our clients to collect lightning data from our MIDS Server (This computer is used to distribute data across the Internet).

This data is displayed on a map of Australia, as shown in figure below:

As you can see from the view:

There are Display #1, Cyclic Graph and Incoming Data Windows.
The Display #1 window shows Lightning occurring across Australia.
The user can magnify down on a specific area to pin point the Lightning occurring in their area.
They can get all the relevant details of a specific Lightning strike by selecting it.
The information displayed, for the selected strike, contains date, time - in UTC - and magnitude.
It also specifies whether the strike is a cloud to ground positive, cloud to ground negative or cloud to cloud.
The Cyclic Graph window shows the intensity of a Lightning Storm that is occurring at that moment.
This shows, by graph bars, whether the storm is intensifying or diminishing.
The Incoming Data window shows the information of each strike that is occurring across Australia.
It shows Date, Time (UTC), Latitude, Longitude, Type of strike and the amperage (in KA - kilo amperes) value of the strike.

Whilst all this is happening, the system saves all this information to file, so the user can at anytime bring up the information stored for lightning occurring on a particular date.
